President's Letter: Letter from Pamela Joy Ring to TMA Nevada Members:

Moving in the Right Direction Requires Using the Right Stuff

Dear TMA Members and Friends, I am honored to be writing to you as the new President of our Nevada chapter. As a fellow neighbor and business professional who has lived in Las Vegas for 25 years, I have witnessed as you, the many pivotal changes to our socio-economic landscape. They have been nothing short of breath-taking if not miraculous. Nothing better describes our state and our town, Las Vegas, than truly a "work in progress." Read More...

Article: Business Failures - by: Patrick W. Wisman, CTP

The Common Thread

After working over thirty plus years in banking with troubled loan customers and owning a consulting practice aimed at helping companies in crisis I gained a new appreciation for the situations companies found themselves in and how they got there.

Call For By-Lined Articles

The Workout is a vehicle to showcase the expertise of TMA Nevada members. To this end, we are soliciting by-lined articles. The guidelines are simple; choose a topic that is timely and relevant to your fellow TMA members. No specific length or word count is required, but generally speaking, the article should be approximately 600 to 800 words. Plan on submitting your article within one week following the monthly TMA Nevada meeting for possible inclusion in the next month's issue. Don't be concerned if you think your journalistic skills aren't up to speed, The Workout editorial staff can help you with editing. Of course, nothing will go to print until you approve the final copy. Please send all submissions to Liz Gamble, editor, The Workout at lizgamble@ckprrm.com.

Members In The Media

Occasionally, we will run a column that highlights TMA Nevada's members' appearance in the media. If you have been quoted in an article within the local media, professional trade publications, and national media or on the web, please send a notice of the media appearance and the web link to the article to Mark Cenicola. You can contact him through the membership directory.

Information of Interest from National

Each issue of The Workout will provide links to articles and information from the TMA national office as well as other chapters.

RECAP OF: "Green Nevada: Turnaround Stories in Conserving Our Natural Resources"

During the June 25 meeting, TMA Nevada members learned that going "Green" could be done efficiently and economically. Panelists Craig S. Galati, principal of Lucchesi Galati Architect, Inc. and Quentin Abramo, president of Faciliteq Architectural Interiors, which focuses on providing product solutions for "green buildings," dispelled the commonly held notion that "to go green" automatically means spending more money.

According to the speakers, a green building is often described as one that minimizes its negative environmental impact. There needs to be a fundamental mindset change that recognizes a green building serves the needs of the people who inhabit it, supporting and nurturing their health, satisfaction, productivity, and spirit. The creation of a green building requires the careful application of the acknowledged strategies of sustainable architecture nontoxic construction, the use of durable, natural, resource efficient materials, reliance on the sun for day lighting, thermal and electric power, and recycling of wastes into nutrients.

Are we there yet? Certainly not. Sustainability remains driven primarily by tax incentives and many new and renovated buildings include some, but not all, green elements, but we are off to a good start. It is anticipated that there will be a push over the next decade to build more sustainable buildings with an eye toward a better use of limited resources.

Just as important is an interior designed to support a green building. The use of a raised floor system

Progress Continues.

Progress continues on the recently launched membership programs and benefits:

Mark Cenicola and his team at Cenicola-Helvin Enterprises have been working tirelessly on the TMA-Nevada web site with the launch of the Membership Directory. As mentioned at the June meeting, TMA members are encouraged to browse the directory and login to update their own profile at http://www.tmaofnevada.com/membership-directory/

In case your missed it, here's a link to the Power Point presentation cover the features of the Membership Directory. Make sure to run it in Presentation Mode, otherwise it may look funny!
