Panelists:

Kate MarshallKate Marshall was elected State Treasurer in 2006 and reelected in 2010. Kate first ran for office on a platform she called the Marshall Plan, which included seven main points she would emphasize during her tenure: improve and implement programs that will save taxpayer dollars; reduce spending by becoming more efficient; and identify innovative methods for increasing economic development in our state. By the end of her first term, six of her Marshall Plan points had been accomplished, with the seventh being completed during the first year of her second term.

One of her first objectives was to modernize the Unclaimed Property Division. To that end, the Unclaimed Property Division has experienced significant growth in terms of collections and claims paid to rightful owners since Kate took office. The implementation of a Fast Track Claims process has greatly improved the claims process. In fact, collections in Fiscal Year 2010 ($114.5 million) were more than 290% above collections prior to her entering office, while claims paid have increased by 166% during that same period.

Kate's office motto is, "Investing in Nevada's Future." As part of that commitment, and as a mother of two, Kate has been a strong advocate for education in our state. In her role as administrator of the Nevada College Savings Plans, Nevada Prepaid Tuition, and Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship programs, Kate has significantly increased participation by Nevada families in these college savings programs through better fiscal management, an expanded outreach campaign, and by developing programs aimed at helping Nevada students achieve the dream of a college education. She initiated the Ugift program and the Silver State Matching Grant program, which provide enhanced opportunities for Nevada families to save for college, one step at a time. Nevada also established the Distinguished Valor Matching Grant program for military members.

As State Treasurer, Kate sponsored a bill that created Nevada's first private equity investment fund, which is designed to increase investment earnings for Nevada's K-12 schools, while also creating jobs through greater economic development.

Kate continues to work with public officials and interested citizens to find new and improved ways to protect Nevada's future through prudent investment planning.

Terri JanisonTerri Janison has served as Director of Community Relations for Governor Brian Sandoval since he took office in January. She was just named by the Governor as Regional Director for Economic Development and will be responsible for outreach, business relationships and coordination with education and workforce development.

Mrs. Janison was elected to the Clark County School Board where she served for 5 years, the last two as President. In that role she served as the liaison for the Bond Oversight Committee, Debt Management and Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition.

She has been a child advocate for over 20 years, volunteering as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) representing foster children in the court system and serving on the board of directors for the Shade Tree Shelter for homeless women and children. She worked as the executive director of non-profit organizations serving children in need as well as in the corporate world of marketing and public relations. Janison holds a bachelor's degree in advertising from Western Kentucky University. She is married to Kevin, meteorologist for Ch. 3 and they have two children who attend public school in the Clark County School District.
